MarshWitt was commissioned by the Virginia Department of Transportation to develop an architectural program and design for the renovation of the 17,000 SF Salem District Administrative Headquarters facility. The project also includes a 34,000 SF addition, which will largely be a standalone structure with one connection to the newly renovated existing facility.
One of VDOT's primary goals with the project is to consolidate operations and to open up the interior spaces to create more flexibility for housing VDOT functions and activities. MarshWitt conducted extensive interviews with VDOT staff and project stakeholders prior to developing the architectural program and space plan to determine how the space could be most effectively used. The project has an estimated construction cost of $7M.
